Moses Malone: 1983 NBA Most Valuable Player

Born: March 23, 1955, petersburg, Virginia, USA.

College: None, Petersburg high school, Virginia.

NBA start: Undrafted. Began his career with then ABA franchise Utah.

Size: Height:6'10" - Weight:215lbs

MVP stats: gp:78 - mpg:37.5 - ppg:24.5 - rpg:15.3 - apg:1.3 - fg%:50.1 - ft%:76.1

Team standing: Philadelphia 65-17, first in Atlantic division. Routed Lakers 4-0 in NBA finals.

Comments: His off-season leave from the Rockets as a free agent weakened the mediocre team, while his new team already good, became perhaps one of the all-time greats in a single season. Only if Charles Barkley had arrived in the league a couple years earlier. It claimed a 12-1 playoff record on its bulldozing path to the title. The best playoff record yet, until the 2000-01 Lakers carved a 15-1 mark.

Because 6 teams per conference made the playoffs in those days (1983), the #1 and 2 seed teams were exempt from the first round.
