<< Back Next >> -------------------- April 05, 2001 Grumpy old man 15 year NBA veteran Charles Oakley has been around long enough to see and know the "tricks of the trade" of the league, but after returning from his suspension he wasn't too shy about letting the league know how he liked it. Espn.com reported "Now, Charles Oakley is picking fights with the NBA. The Toronto forward said Wednesday the NBA is to blame for his latest confrontation with an opponent during a morning shootaround and that it 'does not care' about the Raptors because the team is in Canada." Maybe there's something I don't know about but judging from what I hear there doesn't seem to be any link between the team and him deciding to clock some guy. In the same report Oakley also stated that the team was hurt by being put in Canada. No Oakman! Haven't you noticed there's more change around in those pockets of yours? That you can get fined and be owed money but still be in good financial situation? It's called expansion the more there is the higher the bills stack up. Somebody's just gotta be the special messenger so everyone can make the money. Oakley's take on crossing the US-Canadian border, "they don't care about the team, It's not easy getting back into the States all the time. You got to go through customs, get checked by dogs." Is this true McGrady, Stoudamire? The reason why you all left? Again maybe I'm missing something. I've crossed that border - not nearly as much, but - enough times. He should be a familiar face at the gates by now. Then again when you're the man who proclaims that 6 out of 10 employees in the industry do drugs, shouldn't you expect such a welcome when going about your chores? After all they're probably just going by your say they don't think you were wrong, were you? Customs is not the greatest, but I've never been sniffed by dogs. Rising Sun It's been a longtime coming, but the NBA's desire to engulf the whole world in its marketing machine, will get yet another jumpstart tonight. Wang Zhizhi a 7 footer from China, and the first player from the "Land of the rising sun" - Asia - to make the NBA is scheduled to make his debut tonight with the Dallas Mavericks against the Atlanta Hawks. << Back Next >> Back to archive Back to top
