<< Back Next >> -------------------- April 28, 2001 Mashing onward The Charlotte Hornets are marching to round 2 of the playoffs. In this particular case they've 'Mashed' Miami to get to next level, their second time ever. None of the games were close. It probably didn't all have to do with players seeking revenge for being flicked like bugs to Charlotte by Pat Riley. Now they're bugs and enjoying the change especially Jamal Mashburn. What all star game snub? Other players can keep the all star selection he didn't get, this fulfills him well. Yes I know deep down he still wants to make the all star team. But this can be a substitute for now. The fact that Miamy had Alonzo in the starting lineup might have disturbed chemistry. Eddie House and Anthony Carter are young nice players at the point, but none of them can match the clutchness and leadership of Hardaway - at least not yet. Alonzo probably remembers and maybe wishes he was back to the days when he and Larry Johnson led Charlotte to the playoffs and past the first round back in 93. Both feats being firsts for the franchise. Ahhh the good old days. Now he's got to deal with reality (so does LJ), as their egos had caused them to part ways. Since then they have become bitter rivals. That season Zo was a rookie. He was picked second behind Shaq in the draft and also lost out to him for ROY - he didn't like it, - but he would probably trade this or his whole Heat career in for that season just to make things right from the start. << Back Next >> Back to archive |
