<< Back Next >> -------------------- July 16, 2001 Mr Charles at the after-party With all the trades that took place on Ruler Stern's premises, none has caught my attention more than Charles Oakley going back to Chicago During his earlier years as a Bull, The Oak Man was one of His Airness' personal on court body guards. At that time though the Bulls also had Horace Grant - back then he could hang with the best of them - so that gave them 2 power forwards. Instead of getting an opportunity to be part of the "Unbeatabulls", Charles was shipped to the Big Apple for Center Bill Cartwright because Chi-town needed a pivot. Shortly after that, the "Win-Machine" was given life. It's not easy not to think that Oakley will think back and wonder what could have been of his career. New York was good, but to win championships with the Greatest...Ask Isiah Rider why he still wants to stay in L.A. None will mistake the after-party (the current Bulls squad) for the party itself, but Mr Charles did have his share of tries. There's a cruel cruel business world beneath. Then again who am I to speak for Oakley when Jeff McInnis and Tyronne Hill claim to know more about requital because of him? << Back Next >> Back to archive |
