<< Back Next >> -------------------- April 18, 2002 All playoffs no (V)insanity It was dramatic enough that the Toronto Raptors made the playoffs on the last day of the season. A little later than earlier concensus suggested, but they still made it. It was that or they would have to deal with haunting memories of themselves after the All-Star break throughout their summer. That would've been insane to bear, especially since they were thought of as one of the better teams. Tough luck for Milwaukee. Straight out of T.o land, the hard hitting news (to us at least) is that the team will cut it's franchise player from the playoff roster. Yes take a lesson from Grant Hill. The team is playing well and may have extended the season on their own. Toronto's first round playoff opponent, Detroit is a 2nd seed but not a lock to advance to the next round. If Vince carter played he might get reinjured in the playoffs and if we take a long shot, possibly turn out like our beloved Grant Hill. We're O.K with the move, but you just know Lenny Wilkens will not use twelve players from his roster. Every player will not get to play in the playoffs. Why couldn't Carter be included as just a...symbolic gesture Mr Grunwald, some team spirit, to make him feel like one of the boys, part of the family, show you appreciate him no matter the circumstances. Where's the heart. The team is hot now, but that was a cold move. All this (Carter being excluded off the playoff roster) will do is make Vince feel like he was hindering the team everyone begged him to stick with. The other players will feel they're doing the dirty work on their own and Vince will just come back in the regular season and steal the spotlight once again. Not one of the better employee management decisions by any standards. The only reason they talk of NBA playoffs in Canada is because of Vince Carter. << Back Next >> Back to archive |
