<< Back Next >> -------------------- April 28, 2002 Do you think some players deserve awards that just don't get mentioned in the NBA's regular list of end of season prizes? If yes, then the 2nd annual HoopsCorner.com awards is the thing for you. It's filled with awards of all ranges. You can even send us your own award categories and the respective winners. Also check out contributor Alan Shepston's article, Kukoc - the invisible man? Sans fear The latest eye and ear grabbing news is delivered to us from the Western Conference's 2nd and 7th seed battle. The Sans Antonio Spurs are clearly the favorite. In Seattle last night, David Robinson was absent, but id didn't matter. The San Antonio Spurs beat the Sonics 102-75 in game 3 to take a 2-1 series advantage. Spurs rookie point guard Tony Parker scored 23 points going 10-15 in just 28 minutes of run. But the game really belonged to Tim Duncan, 27 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 blocks. He's also the reason why the Admiral's absence doesn't matter as it used to. "I'm going to go at him and I'm not going to back down" is what Tony Parker said about the Sonics venerable floor general Gary Payton. We're all for high self-esteem but then adding that the Glove was good when he played against Chi-town int the '96 finals tends to ring the wrong bells. You think Payton is no longer good? It's usually easier to talk than to walk the walk but Parker did both outscoring Payton 24 to 20 and proving unguardable. Despite his prowess however you don't need see-through vision to notice that our rookie has it made by playing with Tim Duncan who attracts considerable inside attention. Tony, It's O.K to talk but you still have dues to pay. Believe us, every dime will count. So until you do, enjoy the good times while they're here because your bad times will come. As you're at it give respect where it's warranted, and credit where it should be given. Do not feast on another person (Tim Duncan)'s tab, wait until you can fly from your own wings. << Back Next >> Back to archive |
