<< Back Next >> -------------------- December 29, 2001 Deplorable squads The Sixers, Heat and Knicks all lost last night, to the Nuggets, Grizzlies, and Cavaliers. So far it seems like the Sixers might miss the playoffs. Phoenix appeared in the 1976 finals, and then failed to make the playoffs the next season. They're the last team to pull such a trick. Since 1969 other actors are: Boston won the title in 1969 and missed the playoffs in '70. Milwaukee lost the finals in '74 and missed the post season in '75. Miami goes as team MVP Zo goes. He's only a fraction of himself compared to the rivalry with Chicago and New York days. His best days are probably past him. No one said money could buy success. It helps, but it's not the complete answer. Is Allan Houston the last all-star free agent on the planet that they had to ante up on him? it still mistifies me why players accept contracts they can't live up to. Of course we know it's all about the money, no matter what you hear anywhere else. Winning should be up there somewhere too. I think. Jeff Van Gundy saying he didn't expect more from Houston because of the money. What he meant was: Houston you're not that good. The money can't buy you what you don't already have. Good game last night though. << Back Next >> Back to archive |
