<< Back Next >> -------------------- February 20, 2002 Name the player! We took the task of listing every NBA player's nickname. Yes, every player on every team. What about those who don't have one? Well they were given something. We introduced Western conference players' nicknames today and tomorrow we roll out Eastern conference players' nicknames. We have come to judge "Big Country" belonging to Memphis' Bryant Reeves (retire in peace) as the best nickname, and the one we'd least likely desire is from Brent Barry of the Sonics: "Bones". Best Rose from Indiana Jalen Rose, Travis Best, rookie Norm Richardson and a conditional second-round draft pick were sent to Chicago from Indiana for Brad Miller, Ron Mercer, Ron Artest and Kevin Ollie. Chicago did get the best player in that deal, but Indiana got the best deal according to their needs. Talk about not making friends anywhere for Jalen Rose. Ever since he won that Most Improved Player award in '99, nothing has been friendly to him. Nothing. He got snubbed for the Olympics, the All-Star game, and now the player he and his fab five buddies idolized in college and current coach doesn't even like his rep. Isiah Thomas:"No Jalen, I wanted that other moon of Jupiter" In all honesty I think the Pacers' front line will be imposing now but it might take some tweaking for Mike Miller and Jermaine O'Neal to play seamlessly. The Bulls have finally landed someone they can call a genuine star in this league - when it seemed impossible for them. They have the rest of the season to sell him on Michael Jordan's living room. << Back Next >> Back to archive |
