2002 NBA Draft, 2002 draft analysis

2 Star Twin City?

It's summer time and to be exact the free agent negotiation period began on the first of July.

Here we are today, July 4th (to all, happy 4th of July). Possibly the biggest news yet in the free agent frenzy was made yesterday. He's an emerging member of the wolfpack. The Minnesota's Timberwolves Wally Szczerbiak.

Mr Szczerbiak's agent Gary Wichard compares his client to other All-Stars from the draft class of 99, Baron Davis, and Elton Brand - (where is Steve Francis?).

While it's all good that Wally is moving up the ranks, don't we all deserve to see more (see Antawn Jamison)? Baron Davis got a maximum contract offer but it's because of a lot of reasons and frankly he's just that good. I mean...we even crafted the point guard his own poem. Wally doesn't inspire us like Baron does. The money won't buy that kind of game (check Allan Houston).

It wouldn't be bad either for Szczerbiak to come to his own defense, instead of letting the agent, who's truly only about the money, do all the talking.

On an unbiased tone, Kevin Garnett is still the Big Ticket in this town. Would Wally be All-World at this time without Kevin Garnett around? Not that Kevin Garnett himself comes through either but how will they win with such fringe fourth quarter play? How we had hoped the Timberwolves would have stollen one game from the Mavericks in the 2002 playoffs.

Unless the money brings out the best of Wally, and other changes are made, Minny will be a Two-Star team, and will still be a far onlooker on the Five-Star exclusive club of the Kings and Lakers.
