<< Back Next >> -------------------- June 13, 2002 Triple crowned!!! It seemed very normal and yet still had a sense of accomplishment. The Lakers are once again the NBA champions, for the third straight year. Phil Jackson also has just wrapped up his third triple crown, and his 9th NBA title as a coach. The NBA's coach of the year trophy is named the Red Auerbach trophy, but now that Phil Jackson is about to surpass the man...what now? Granted he can still win coach of the year, how would you feel winning a trophy named after you? Or for that matter, loosing one named after you? Maybe after consideration of that fact by David Stern, Phil Jackson won't get to be lending his name to a trophy anytime soon - maybe until he retires permanently. New Jersey, there's nothing to be sad about all this was in the plan. The only thing nobody forsaw perhaps was Kenyon Martin's substance in times of pressure. Sure enough this dude isn't the knucklehead we make him out to be when it matters. He never even went off once in the finals, or the playoffs. Basically, just like the other Nets, he just didn't try to hop out of the dustpan that carted New Jersey out of the title ring. O.K he tried in the games, but the only people he went crazy on were his teammates, after the game. Something's wrong. He'd be for real if he took a few charges on Shaq, and Kobe. Bring out the next challenger! West wants East Word out of Memphis, from the Grizzlies' brand new President of basketball operations, Jerry West, is that his new employers should be doing business as an Eastern conference team. Jerry West's reasons? the move will save the team travel costs, and time. Come on, is there any spin doctoring needed here? We all already know the Grizz are tired of the likes of Sacramento and Lakers running them out of their building. They want to get a break, and have it a little easy, that's all. They want to have 5 game stays against the good teams in the East like the nets, Pistons, and Hornets, instead of facing mediocre squads in the West such as the Jazz, Timberwolves, and Blazers. The true hoops head would have noticed that the West squads listed above would be tops in the East. Apparently the grizzlies have had enough loosing. << Back Next >> Back to archive |
