<< Back Next >> -------------------- November 23, 2001 Early rumblings Right from the craddle they're ready to battle. To their teams these rookies are as sweet as cookies. Tonight they will be pitched against each other. The formidable chance that yielded Tony Parker to San Antonio and Jamaal Tinsley to the Pacers will be weighed tonight to test just how formidable which team's luck was greater - at least so far. Tony and Jaamal picked 28 and 27th respectively in the 2001 draft will be matched against each other tonight. Both have emerged as the catalysts for their team's offense, and produced in crucial times of a game. Playing the numbers' game we don't really see a clear favorite. Jamaal averages about twice the number of assists (when you have Reggie and Jalen ready to launch away...), and a higher free-throw percentage (probably studying Reggie's free-throw habits) than his counterpart. Over Thanksgiving he set the Pacers' assists record with 23, while sinking #23's team. Tony has a higher field goal and 3-point accuracy (clear view paths provided by Duncan's inside game), and less turnovers. Also the Spurs can't seem to get a hand on defeat since he took the reins at the point.

Let the rookies rumble, and may the cookie crumble. Jamaal over Tony, but Parker should still get to say "nous avons le double 'v' ". You don't need to go to French Lick, Indiana, to figure out what he would be saying. Not that they speak french there either. << Back Next >> Back to archive |
