<< Previous Next >> -------------------- November 16, 2002 Search for the Dallas Dime Since the beginning of this NBA season we hadn't caught a game on TV - until last night. It was the Mavericks trying to outduel the Celtics. Which apparently they succeeded in doing, 97-86. That game reminded us vividly of the reason why we love this game. This game was packed with flair, flash, style, you name it. Yet it was also full of substance. Flashy yet effective style of play. Nowitzki was mostly the man, though Michael Finley did throw down a sick one off of a miss. But Frankly as we once predicted (January 24, 2002), this is Captain Dirk's team now. Today the Mavericks go against one of the East's top dog. The New Jersey Nets. They will be shooting for their tenth straight win. This is quite and achievement. To put it into perspective, there had been days when expectations were for a little over that many wins at the season break point. The record for the most win to begin a season is 15, also by a Texas team - the Houston Rockets during Hakeem Olajuwon's heydays. But if the Lakers have thought us all a lesson, it's that only the end result matters. That would explain why there isn't more hype around Dallas. For the record we predict Dallas denting the Nets record. In the Texas triangle, the other 2 teams have seen destiny face to face. Will this be Dallas' year? Maybe just regular season destiny. << Previous Next >> Back to archive |
