Wanted: NBA MVP

Game 3 of the Western Conference finals in Los Angeles brought back flashes of the old Kevin Garnett. The old 4th quarter invisible man trick. The MVP was totally shut down by the Lakers' pressure defense. Latrell Sprewell had his moments but he still could have done more (18 points on 7-17 shooting).

The shinning light on Minnesota's side was Wally Szczerbiak. The man was everywhere, ending up with 21 points and 7 rebounds and had several key baskets. Once KG's sidemate until Sam Cassell and Sprewell showed up, he displayed many glimpses of the player he was and still is.

Sam Cassell again hampered by back problems was very limited. However he had 18 points in 26 minutes, talk about efficiency. He recorded similar numbers (or at least close to that) in the last game, and it has to be noted that in both he missed the entire 4th quarter.

The MVP dillema: no the MVP award shouldn't be awarded at the end of the playoffs. We hear that monster trucks have a remote switch that will completely shut them down in case of emergency. It's really not necessary that NBA MVPs be equipped with such a feature, but when the Lakers switched their defense on, Kevin Garnett just lost all his fury. It was like he wasn't there.

In the end the Lakers claimed this one 100-89. About the refs not calling a foul on the Wolves for fouling Shaq (Hack-a-Shaq), that was completely ridiculous. The justification that the Diesel fouled Mark Madsen first was ridiculous. If they thought Shaq foreshadowed his foul by fouling Madsen first then they should've called Shaq for a foul. Which did not happen.

If they think the fouls are intentional and are not really legit they should still call them. Why? the rules say so. Their no calls mess with the integrity of the game and in that particular situation, suggested that the officials were more than a neutral arbitrary party.
