Carmelo Anthony vs. Lebron James

At just 19 years old, Carmelo Anthony led the Syracuse Orangemen to the NCAA Title in his freshman year. Many people argue that if Anthony is the best rookie, he would have been selected #1 in the draft, but it was Lebron who was selected first and that automatically makes him the best rookie of all the rookies? Many people also argue and believe that James was only selected because of all the ESPN coverage and media hype.

If you would look at the level of competition these two players were facing, James was going against 15-17 year old high school players who were not even any match for James who was more physically mature than the rest of them. Then you take a look at Anthony who was going up against some of the best college players in the game who will eventually be in the NBA someday. Anthony helped lead his team through an excruciating NCAA Tournament and defeat two #1 seeds in winning the tournament.

Now Anthony, who is a member of the Denver Nuggets, will immediatley be one of, if not the best, the top player on their team. Where as the Cleveland Cavaliers who selected James have surrounded him by players with skills that are very evenly matched with his which could also lead to a battle for the ball.

While drafting a future superstar to build your team around, and having the ability to be a major magnet in free agency won't gaurantee success, I and others like me believe you will be seeing the Denver Nuggets end their playoff drought well before those of the Cleveland Cavaliers. So if I was to pick one of these two players and tell you which one is better, I would most definatley pick Carmelo Anthony and you will see why as the 2003-2004 NBA Season unravels.
