As first overall NBA picks go, which rookie was the best and which one was the worst? It's hard to really compare them since rookies impact teams differently. Statistically however Wilt Chamberlain had the best rookie season with averages of 37.6 points, 2.3 assists, and 27 rebounds a game in the 1950-60 season. On the other hand LaRue Martin drafted 1rst overall in 1972, averaged only 4.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists per. For his 4-season career, his averages were 5.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists.
