The Chosen 28

The 28 players drafted in the first round get guaranteed contracts. No matter even if I can beat them one-on-one, they still get them. So therefore the given title. Whoever is 30th gets a tough pill to swallow if he doesn't work hard enough.

"It's been a long time coming but we're here now. The road was long and arduous sometimes paved with thorns. Good thing we found out early enough the only thing we needed most in our survival kit was heart.

Yeah we've got big ones.

A night of celebration awaits us after the draft, a week of contemplation of our achievement lies ahead, months of preparation and adjustement to our new lifestyles and jobs are just beginning.

Like we said earlier we wanted to get here on heart and love for the game alone. But as you all know this is a top dollar business. Some said that's all we were after. Not quite. We know our priorities. That doesn't mean we should resent the money.

To everyone of you who were there to help us along the way we remember you all - even if some of you think we've forgotten or don't show it enough.

True we haven't totally made it yet, there are still ways to go. You can be sure we'll work hard to earn every penny. Yet it's nice to know even if it doesn't pay off as we would wish - haha - 7 figure reasons the team owners will be coughing up say GMs better do something good with us for at least the next 3 years.

Indeed we're the chosen 28 we get the cash no matter what they get (from us).

Just so you know, we don't pity the other draftees or those who didn't get picked. It was us or them.

On-court you'll see for yourself what happens.

Off-court, we'll add those female entertainers' posters to uncle's yard sale. We can just ask them to join us at parties of our own.

No more asking for rides after the game, the Expedition comes in handy.

There won't be a thing in the mall our wallets couldn't handle.

Those bullies we encountered in elementary school, we ain't mad. It just wasn't our time then. Now it is.

Those teachers who said we'd never amount to anything, thanks for the motivation.

All the doubters and hecklers, you'll be glad to know our bandwagon still has good seats at no charge.

Not for show-boating or bragging rights, but we'd love one last pickup game with all the ballers we used to run with on the blacktop.

Oh right, the family - perhaps the universal soft spot. It means as much to all our families whether from concrete and metal or marble and glass cribs, the feeling is the same: their son has made it.

A few cats have said we were just lucky to be gifted, but to be in this position is no luck. They must not be looking hard enough. If they did they'd notice the rivers of sweat on our forheads."
