-------------------- May 20, 2002 The Laker army Welcome to the Republic of Lake. As with any other country, a nation's ability to make and retain a particular nationhood or national identity will rest on is willingness to employ military force to defend its assets, and keep invaders at bay. The country's success in the afore mentioned areas will ultimately depend on the ability of its armed forces. In recent years, the Laker army has divided and conquered many formidable squads, including the Sonics, Blazers, and Spurs. We have set out to explore Lake country's armed forces, because it is thanks to it that prosperity is the word around here. It merits a case study of its own. At the very top we have the president of Lake country, Mr Jerry Buss. He replaced the late Jack Kent Cooke in 1979 as the president of the republic. It can be said that his desire to be victorious is what has kept this nation above others who clearly had more capital. He claims 70 precent of his concentration is on winning, and only 20 percent is on amassing capital. How about the other 10 percent Mr Buss? (Although he's often seen accompanied by females who could be his granddaughters, but that's another story). In the 22 years he's been in power, his troops have been victorious 7 times in the annual World Wars. That's more than any other country during that period of time. The army general, Phil Jackson. He might forever be knocked for his troops always having the cream of the crop in terms of soldiers. The reality however is that others have had the same troops he's had and couldn't fathom his success. He's also a proven master mind of psychological warfare. Many times the enemmy might have lost the war even before staging their attack. 8 world crowns and counting. The army itself is made of: The infantry division, featuring Shaquille O'neal. He's the in-field leader of the troops. The center of all things on the frontline. Everything else is put into orbit. You haven't earned your stripes in the infantry unless you've had a respectable showing against Shaq. The other grit warrriors are Mark Madsen, Samaki Walker, Stanislav Medvedenko, Jelani McCoy. This part of the army does all the dirty job, and always lives to tell of its exploits. The mercenaries, Robert Horry and Rick Fox. These two "knuckleheads" or "thugs" as some opponents and on-lookers call them tend to become a pest to the opposing squad's best gunner, or leader. They don't do it by outgunning or outshining their victim but rather finding ways to get them frustrated through "alternative" means. Think of their effect as Dennis Rodman's effect on Alonzo Mourning. Just like intangibles can't be measured, their contributions are priceless. The ministry of defense. Charged with exposing the weaknesses in the opponent's offensive tactics, anticipating the next wave of attack and reacting in accordance. It can keep any squad firing blanks for as long as the Laker army needs to get its tanks and jets revved up. Rick Fox, Derek Fisher, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kobe Bryant are the main stays on this division. The air force. Always on time in stepping in to neutralize the opposition's assets whenever the infantry draws a lot of attention and coverage from being too conspicuous in its operations. Brian Shaw, Derek Fisher, Lindsey Hunter, Robert Horry main the commands of the Lakers' fighter jets. And then there is the big unit. In Russia they call them the Spetnatz, in Canada they're known as the Joint Task Force Two (JTF-2), in Britain they're the Special Air Service (SAS), in France they're labeled the Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GIGN), in the U.S they're the Sea Air Land's (Navy SEALS), and in Lake they call it Kobe Bryant (KB8). The Lakers' special operations unit simply does not have an equal in this day and age. Just like the other traditional special forces, it's highly trained, intelligent, motivated, and steps in during dire times. It has gone from being a virtually independent entity to being one of the most powerful weapons under command. Its mission seems simple enough: terminate combat while ensuring victory.
