The rookie monologues

Without actually questioning them or being in their minds, the following are thoughts we think 6 rookies of the draft class of 2001 have in mind:

Pick #1 Kwame Brown F, Washington Wizards: It doesn't matter who the Rookie of the year is I'm still the #1 pick. You can't fault the King for trustung his winner's instincts. If given the chance to shine I would've made a splash in a lot of minds. I know I've still got a lot to learn and yes I'm willing to put in the time. Still I'd be lying through my teeth if I told you that I didn't think I was over shelved or under used, MJ or no MJ.

Pick#3: Pau Gasol F, Memphis Grizzlies: The Euroscar was well out of my reach but not the NBA's Top New Comer prize. In time I'm bound to get the Euroscar but none of its past winners will have an NBA rookie of year trophy in their treasure chest.
Sure the Grizzlies' current state played in my favor but look at it this way: I made the best of a bad situation. Isn't this what they call cutting a diamond out of the rough? I believe everyone should be trying to make the best of their situation, instead of finding reasons to degrade other's accomplishments.

Pick #4: Eddy Curry F/C, Chicago Bulls Listen up people. I don't mind being nicknamed, but how about something original. Baby Shaq? What happened to the last player who had someone's proper name as their nickname? Harold Minor was Baby Jordan and I'd bet a week's paycheck most of y'all don't know his whereabouts at this moment.
Please don't make me a victim. Why couldn't I be Big Ed, Money Eddy, or XXE (Extra extra Eddy)? It doesn't matter. I'd rather a corny one than something that brought doom. I do know I draw my destiny not the name, but a good name is a good name. Thanks for your understanding. By the way, give me five years and I'll be dunking on Shaq.

Pick #6: Shane Battier G, Memphis Grizzlies: Man we need to stop this madness. I know Michael Jordan is pro-Carolina. I am pro-Duke and fairness. This crosstown adversity of Duke-Carolina cost me the title of #1 pick. I mean what other reason is there for him not grabbing me first? His come back could've been a lot smoother. I am by far the most accomplished, and just as much of a stud as anybody else. Like I said before "athletes win track meets, basketball players win basketball games".

Pick #7: Eddie Griffin F, Houston Rockets : I could've been #1 and not disappointed. Better yet I could've been starting the whole year and contributed. What...did anybody look down on me because I've made a few mistakes in the past? I learn from my mistake. Today is a new day, I look ahead, not backwards. In the same way I will move on and up.

Pick #30: Trenton Hassel G, Chicago Bulls: I tell you...it was tough just missing being scooped into the first round. I was 30th. 30th!! The first looser. Losing out on the guaranteed contracts the first rounders get. Now I've got to gut it out to make it, to show I belong. I am prepared to work hard but nothing beats knowing you have that safety net.
If they (the first rounders) fail they're still rewarded for taking a gamble. Us (the second rounders), all I can say is we sure could use some of that loot. I proved myself in the college ranks. Scoring in double figures since my freshman year. Oh sorry excuse me I lied, I meant scoring well over 15 points per battle my whole time in college. GM's should know I can handle it here too.
