Air Canada is the lone monopoly flight company in Canada. A number people would not be able to fly if the carrier was to suddenly fold. The country's lone professional basketball franchise's franchise player is nicknamed - Air Canada. To use an economics term, he's got an absolute advantage on basketball offense over all in the country. Vince Carter is the Raptors' carrier. He carries them to wins, to NBA respect, and everything they are today. Last night in the Air Canada Centre, they lost to the Detroit Pistons 80-72. Toronto has now lost 7 straight games in which Carter hasn't played in. All we can say about these results is that he's better than we thought. With that lineup you'd expect Toronto to still be able to carry on without him. This brings us back to 1998. To put it another way, Golden State's woes could've been over by this time if they had kept him. As we can deduct from this season, last season for Antawn Jamison was a fluke. He's not able to live up to it this year. If he was a true star, a position change would just be a minor inconvenience he would have adapted to by now. Carter and Kobe if memory serves right, first began as small forwards. If we flip the script on that draft day trade, that means perhaps right now Raptors officials would be planning a move somewhere south of the border as Michael Heisley lead his beloved Grizzlies. For a player of his caliber though, Vinsanity has too many "handle with care" stickers, for our taste. That slows his development and his team's. Our man is sometimes tentative to drive the lane, and also sometimes reluctant to create other options besides what the defense serves him. Take a leap of faith and hope for the best Mr carter. The supposed injuries are only a materialization of your doubts. Your results will only be achieved according to your expectations. Nike should have told you this when you signed with them: just do it! Next: The rookie monologues Previous: Eastern conference nicknames Articles main Back to top
