#1 stunners

Even before the Detroit Pistons had finished off the Indiana Pacers in the Conference finals, many Detroit Radio Stations had fans calling in to talk about the Lakers. On a particular sports talk show, there was a man who had called to predict that the Lakers will have trouble with the Pistons. His most valid credential was that he had been a basketball fan longer than I had been alive. But still I thought no matter, it's a Laker year.

But alas so far the Pistons have owned the remaining open arenas in the NBA.

Since the Pistons demolished the team we were rooting for, badly enough that we can't find a single highlight to discuss, the only memorable moment for us was actually outside the Palace of Auburn Hills. Amidst the traffic jam of cars trying to enter the arena's parking lot, a triple D'ed gal emerged from the sunroof of a black limousine and started feasting every guy's eyes. The thought came to us, was that a member of Mr Buss' debutante squad? We might never know.

The Pistons have surprised everyone with their commanding play in this series, but we're just not ready to give up on the Lakers yet. We know how Kobe Bryant can play, we know the Pistons still have no one to take on Shaq. Richard Hamilton is getting the best of Kobe, but he gets so much help from teammates, a la Reggie Miller.

Wisdom says to wait for Malone's knee to get some recovery time and watch him set those gate-door picks for Kobe to maneuver.

Had it not been for that triple by Kobe the Pistons would have started drawing a parade route in downtown Detroit. But then again had the Pistons won 2 games in L.A wouldn't the Lakers have played differently? Maybe.

How confident were the Pistons that the game was secured? They broke out Darko Milicic. What happens when Rasheed Wallace starts getting hot and actually has to be covered? So far the pistons aren't running on all cylinders yet.

The biggest disapointment for the Lakers at this time has to be Payton. Forget that excuse about being old. If Lattrel Sprewell can still fill it up, Payton can too. The true reason is the Pistons defense got him whipped, and to get started he needs the rock and he can't have it because Kobe got it.
