<< Previous Next >> -------------------- January 30, 2003 No big and easy win for the Raptors When The Toronto Raptors (11-34) visited the New Orleans Hornets (24-22) last night, possibly the easiest thing for them all season was being able to get one of their own to participate in the All-Star festivities. Although they were in the Big Easy, even Easy Street couldn't make anything else less of a toil for them. It's been a relatively easy task for the Raptors in the last few years to have a representative at the midseason classic. This year being no different, Vince Carter is once again a starter in the flagship event. The All-Star game. Even though the Hornets had a significantly better record they could never come close to such bragging rights. In the grand scheme of things though such accolades don't matter the least bit. Besides the Hornets have their own All-Star representative. It's just that it takes a sharper hoops eye (the coaches) to distinguish (vote for) Jamal Mashburn. All that said the Hornets went ahead and trashed the Raptors by 21 points. They even unleashed The Tractor (Robert Traylor). Even though he scored only 8 points, he did get his moments against Antonio Davis. It might have helped that the Hornets had a player who needed this game to keep his job. Robert Pack who was on a 10-day contract which expired today, gave plenty of reasons why he should be a fixture for the season with 18 points and 11 assists. David Wesley led all scorers with 25 points. Vince Carter who's having his minutes well monitored scored 13 points in 23 minutes. Just how good is he? At one point of the game when the ball went out of bound on the Hornets, Carter grabbed it and made a reverse slam, that drew Ooohs and Aaahs from the Hornets' crowd. It was on a dead ball and didn't count but man, that small glimpse was just enough to bring back past memories rushing. He looked so elegant, so graceful and just so powerful. It was one of those thing you wish you could see all the time. What happened to them good ol' days? Let's hope this is just a minor phase in his career. Just like when Michael Jordan missed almost all of his second season (1985-86). Hornets 104, Raptors 83. << Previous Next >> Back to archive main Back to top
